Benefits of using a Virtual Assistant

Outlined is a quick summary of the benefits of using a virtual assistant. For more in depth benefits you can go to my rant and rave page. The benefits are enormous for smart business owners as follows:

  • Flexibility, work can be done outside of normal business hours.

  • No need to provide office space, hardware and supplies as a virtual assistant uses her own resources and stationery.

  • A virtual assistant cares about her business and offers superior service.

  • Temp agencies don't always send the right person for the job and can be guilty of sending unskilled candidates - believe me I worked in the corporate world for 19 years and I saw it all.

  • Temp agencies usually need to be paid for a minimum amount of hours.

  • A virtual assistant is only paid for the time she spends working.

  • A business is able to use the services of the same person over again, whereas this is near impossible with temps.

  • Virtual assistants are independent contractors thereby eliminating administration on client's behalf with payroll, superannuation, leave payments, sick leave, etc.

  • A virtual assistant is not paid for spending time on personal phone calls, coffee breaks, surfing the net, texting at her desk, etc.

  • A virtual assistant performs the tasks that you previously may have been wasting your time doing instead of focusing on growing your buisness. As a business owner you should be outsourcing and delegating the myriad of administrative tasks to an appropriate virtual assistant.

  • Hiring the services of a Virtual Assistant compared to employing permanent staff

More benefits of using a virtual assistant is the cost savings when you compare to hiring full time staff.

This is just an example using Australian entitlements and they will vary from country to country. The example is for a secretary/PA.

    37 Hr Week @ $25.00 per hr (48 working weeks) $44,400.00

    4 weeks Annual Leave $3,700.00

Temp During Annual Leave @ $35.00 per hour $ 5,180.00

Workers Compensation Insurance (approx) $ 500.00

    Bonus - annually (approx) $ 1,850.00

    Superannuation (9% of earnings) $ 3,996.00

Total Yearly Salary for Permanent Staff Member $59,626.00

    Then I haven't included:

  • Payroll tax and other costs.

  • Office space leasing and office equipment for permanent staff.

  • I also haven't included the fact that when a permanent staff member is on sick leave she is still being paid for this.

  • And remember that a permanent staff member loses hours and hours of unproductive work time every week.
  • So conservatively an hourly rate for a permanent staff member is starting from $31.00 approx. A virtual assistant starts anywhere from $25 - $35 approx

    BUT

The benefits of using a virtual assistant are that you are only paying for productive time. A Virtual assistant only gets paid for work done and all the time she spends on your business is productive time. whereas permanent staff members are not productive all of the time that they are spending in your business.

You may find that you do not require to employ permanent staff for specific job roles.

These roles can be outsourced to a virtual assistant.

What Job Roles are easily Outsourced to a Virtual Assistant?
  • Bookkeeping and accounts payable and receivable. Companies can find that these roles do not need to be full time job roles and can actually be outsourced very easily.

  • Secretarial work and in particular overload or special project work.

  • Data entry, database maintenance.

  • All forms of transcription work.

  • Small business invoicing and quoting.

  • Website development.
  • The more you think about it the bigger the list gets. With today's technology such as email and the internet, the benefits of using a virtual assistant are growing for more and more jobs.
