I hear so many ways people go about charging for a transcribing service; as an independent contractor, what rate or how would a transcriber charge for their service? Which is right?
Hi Sandra, thanks for the link re above rates. Your site is abounding in resources - great contribution, thank you.
It was just good to see how you charge and compare it with what I do. I don't go for charging per audio minute or hour.
But when I first got work transcribing, the person who sub-contracted to me, paid per audio minute. I was none the wiser!
And I do have just one client overseas who prefers to pay that way, so I guess it's not too bad as long as it's a good rate.

Transcription Rates by: Sandra, site owner
Hi thanks for your question. There are various methods of charging for transcription. Best to go to my www.virtual-assistant-advice.com/transcription_rates.html page as it's all outlined therein.
Then when you've decided on which method to use to charge your client, the actual rate also depends on where you are in the world, what type of transcription it is such as does it include heavy niche terminology, how difficult the audio quality is, are there difficult accents, how many speakers such as focus groups with lots of overtalking, etc. Some transcription is easy and straightforward and some is not.
