Sending dictation to a transcriptionist electronically

by Michelle
(Ontario, Canada)

How can a client dictate a document and send it to the VA for transcription electronically? What reliable programs, software or website exists for this purpose and which are most reliable and convenient for the client and VA to use?

File Transfer Links
by: Lenna

Hi Michelle

Sandra's on the ball there. I just thought I would share some actual links that some of my clients use.

www.largefilesasap.com (free up to 2GB; works gr8)
www.yousendit.com (sign up, free trial, paid opt.)

http://sendshack.com/ (free, don't use this one much though but it worked fine)
www.transferbigfiles.com (free, don't use much, but worked fine.

Good luck:)

Sending dictation electronically
by: Sandra, site owner

I receive my digital dictation in a number of ways. I type for transcription companies and other companies that deal with audio files, so I access the dictation on their website and download the audio onto my hard drive and then into my transcription platform. I use express scribe, it's free.

One client emails it to me through their digital dictation software attached to their dictaphone. This works as this client only dictates short files, so the audio is not huge in size, so easily emailed.

Other clients use file transfer websites such as send this file and there are heaps and heaps of such websites out there. If your file is under 100MB it's usually free to send, and client pays a fee if over 100MB, something like that. You get an email and click on the link and download the audio file into your hard drive.

Other clients in the past used to have an FTP set up, a file transfer protocol, where I'd receive a password and I'd access that and download the audio.

Other clients used to send me CDs in the past too.

There are many ways to receive your audio for transcribing.

Hope I've helped.

Kind regards,
Sandra
